NASA Moon Car
NASA is planning another trip to the moon. But before astronauts set foot on the lunar surface again, Chariot might get there first. Half monster truck, half flatbed trailer, the new lunar vehicle is a mean machine. It crabs up hills and down craters, thanks to 6 independently steered wheel modules and an active suspension system, developed especially for this vehicle by NASA engineers. NASA wants to use its remote capabilities to move some moon sand around before man returns to the Moon. But Chariot will also be driven by astronauts on explorer missions on the moon. And no wonder - this is a fun truck to drive, even with a 500 pound space suit on. We were the first European TV crew to testdrive the $2m lunar truck at NASA headquarters in Houston. The week the program aired, this was the highest rated segment on auto mobil, Germany's most-watched car program. Client: VOX / auto mobil Airdate: 07/06/08 TRT: 06:10 min
