NYC Bee Man
What sounds like a health hazard to average New Yorkers, is actually a fascinating and successful experiment. 10 years ago, David Graves, a longtime Massachusetts bee keeper, realized there’s lots of pollen in NYC, but no bees. He put his first hive up on a friend’s rooftop, and soon enough, the bees were thriving. Today, he tends to 17 hives, from Little Italy to Harlem. He calls his harvest “NYC Rooftop Honey”, and sells it three times a week at the Union Square Market. We accompanied him for two days high above the streets of New York – to some of the most lavish rooftop gardens, where his army of worker bees has found their urban paradise. As long as nobody bugs them… Client: Kabel 1/Abenteuer Leben Airdate: 07/24/07 TRT: 7:24 min
